Child-Centered Play Therapy Advanced Limit Setting

Presented by Shawna West LPC, RPT™, NCC, ASDI

Creating a safe, stable, and nurturing environment is a priority for any caregiver or professional service provider working with children, including play therapists.

Child-Centered Play Therapy limit-setting strategies were designed to facilitate therapeutic responses that are non-punitive, nonjudgmental, and fully accepting of each child's emotional and behavioral needs in the moment.

Rather than pursue obedience, we provide moments of regulation. Rather than punish, we accept and empower the child to practice responsible choice-making. Without limits, there is no safety. Where there is no safety, there is no growth.

In this training we will be taking our limit-setting skills to a deeper level. Through group discussion and rigorous experiential role play, we will be assessing our personal boundaries, practicing self-care strategies, applying self-reflection, and rehearsing therapeutic responses to the child client during various levels of limit setting. With advanced CCPT limit setting skills, we can therapeutically show up and support our child client even in the midst of their most intense and vulnerable moments.
