Utilizing Play Therapy in the School Setting

Presented by Suzanne O'Brien, LPC, RPT™

Have you ever considered using play therapy techniques in the school setting, but hesitated because you didn't feel that you had a clear understanding of how to go about it? Perhaps you weren't certain if play therapy was appropriate for the school setting or had concerns about parent and/or administrator approval.

Play Therapy is defined by the Association for Play Therapy (APT) as “the systematic use of a theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process wherein trained play therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development.”

As a school counselor, you are probably using play therapy every day in your work. Let's talk about the "how" and "why" behind what you are already doing so well, and learn new and playful ways to support your students.
