Based on the theoretical orientation to the process of change, Solution-Focused practitioners "lead from one step behind."

In this Solution-Focused basics workshop, learners will listen, view demonstrations, and watch videos to identify examples and synthesize their knowledge about the twelve basic skills of Solution-Focused Play Therapy in four categories.

Explore opportunities to develop and role play various techniques with a focus on "not knowing," following each client's own wisdom to their vision of better, no matter how young or old.

Training Objectives

  • Categorize the twelve Solution-Focused Play Therapy basic skills into their four types.

  • View and discuss demonstrations of the basic skills through video and live modeling.

  • Role play basic skills with a partner twice and receive partner feedback.

  • Generate conversation and responses consistent with basic skills through an expressive art intervention of creating a scale toward a personal goal.


Joy Cannon, MA, LPC, RPT™, NCC

Joy Cannon is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Play Therapist™, National Certified Counselor with a Master's in Clinical Mental Health from Texas State and President of the Hill Country Chapter of the Texas Association for Play Therapy. Her employment has included crisis response, individual counseling and groups with all ages.

Joy owns Inkling Therapy in South Austin, specializing in children 3-7 years old, counselors in training, interpersonal trauma, grief, and affirming neurodiversity.

She is passionate about Solution-Focused Play Therapy, presenting, and volunteering to lead Therapy for Therapists Collective peer support groups. Her British Shorthairs, Nessie & Rufus, play with her at home.


Good to Know

This is an in-person training and will not be recorded. Please dress comfortably, bring a water bottle, and anything else you need to feel comfortable in a classroom setting for the duration of our training.

In your confirmation email, you will receive additional information about location, but please note that we are located on the second floor, and participants must be able to climb stairs.

This training will provide 3 CE Credits. ​

This training will provide 3 contact hours. To receive contact hours, participants must attend the full presentation and complete the post-presentation evaluation.

Ensemble Therapy is an Approved Provider for the Association for Play Therapy (APT), Approved Provider 23-706. Ensemble Therapy is an approved provider endorsed by an international organization and therefore trainings quality for the 50% CEs mandated by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC) for LPC and LMFT. Play Therapy credit is available to mental health professionals and graduate students in a mental health program.

It is the responsibility of the attendee to verify whether CE credit offered by the Ensemble Learning Center meets the regulations of the participant’s licensing/certification board.

Kaylyn Evans

Kaylyn Evans is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). She earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Southwestern University in Biology and Psychology and her Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling at Texas State University. Kaylyn is currently working towards her Registered Play Therapist™ (RPT™) credential. Kaylyn’s goal is to provide trauma-informed, attachment-based, anti-racist, and LGBTQIA+ affirming counseling at all times. Kaylyn has experience working with children, adolescents, and families in a variety of settings including elementary school and community agencies.
