Explore the history of video gaming, information on types of gaming consoles and gaming themes/genres, as well as ways to assess for video game fit/safety/consent, and how to incorporate basic video game skills into the play space.

Training Objectives

  • Identify three key historical eras in the integration of the video game in the play therapy space.

  • Learn to differentiate the different types of play equipment (consoles) that can be used when engaging in play therapy through the use of video games.

  • Understand how to assess the fit for the use of video games while engaging in play therapy.

  • Gain skills to apply basic play therapy counseling skills while engaging therapeutic video gaming.


Asha M. Creary, M.Ed, LPC-S, NCC, IPT-CST, RPT™

Asha M. Creary grew up in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex and is a licensed professional counselor-approved supervisor in the states of Texas and Missouri.

Asha currently holds a valid Texas Educator Certification for SPED, School Counselor, and 4-8 Generalist. She spends much of her time in the education system working in Title I schools.

Asha has operated in the capacity of a district tutor, math teacher, school counselor, and district specialist. After her time in the school district, she transitioned into private practice work at Crave Counseling. 

Asha also has experience operating as a staff therapist at a mental health hospital and as a victim advocate in a first responder capacity to rape and sexual assault victims. During her free time, Asha enjoys traveling and trying new vegan recipes.


Good to Know

This is an in-person training and will not be recorded. Please dress comfortably, bring a water bottle, and anything else you need to feel comfortable in a classroom setting for the duration of our training.

In your confirmation email, you will receive additional information about location, but please note that we are located on the second floor, and participants must be able to climb stairs.

This training will provide 3 CE Credits. ​

This training will provide 3 contact hours. To receive contact hours, participants must attend the full presentation and complete the post-presentation evaluation.

Ensemble Therapy is an Approved Provider for the Association for Play Therapy (APT), Approved Provider 23-706. Ensemble Therapy is an approved provider endorsed by an international organization and therefore trainings quality for the 50% CEs mandated by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC) for LPC and LMFT. Play Therapy credit is available to mental health professionals and graduate students in a mental health program.

It is the responsibility of the attendee to verify whether CE credit offered by the Ensemble Learning Center meets the regulations of the participant’s licensing/certification board.

Kaylyn Evans

Kaylyn Evans is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). She earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Southwestern University in Biology and Psychology and her Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling at Texas State University. Kaylyn is currently working towards her Registered Play Therapist™ (RPT™) credential. Kaylyn’s goal is to provide trauma-informed, attachment-based, anti-racist, and LGBTQIA+ affirming counseling at all times. Kaylyn has experience working with children, adolescents, and families in a variety of settings including elementary school and community agencies.
