Introduction to Child-Centered Play Therapy: Basic Skills and Applications to Deepen the Therapeutic Relationship
Presented by Shawna West LPC, RPT™, NCC, ASDI
Supported by almost 80 years of research, Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) believes that play is the natural mode of communication for children and that when a child is supported in a safe and accepting environment, they are innately capable of self-actualization.
Child-Centered Play Therapy is globally recognized as an effective, evidence-based theoretical model, meant to foster the "powerful force that exists within every child that strives continuously for self-actualization...independence, maturity, and self-direction" (Landreth 2012).
CCPT builds upon the belief that a positive therapeutic relationship creates a safe environment for the child to move towards greater self-understanding, emotional regulation, and maturity.
You may be new to working with children or you may be a seasoned veteran, but no matter the level of your experience, the incorporation of CCPT basic skills can help you to enhance your personal practice and deepen the quality of the therapeutic experience for your child clients.
